Where to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Baltimore

 

It is that time of year to get your Irish on! St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner as are green bagels, green beer and a parade. Who doesn’t love a parade?  For over 55 years Baltimore has celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a parade and this year is no different.  It kicks off at the Washington Monument on Sunday, March 15th at 2 p.m. and clogs down Charles Street and across Pratt Street to the Inner Harbor. Organizers recommend getting their early since the Shamrock 5K takes place at 1:15pm just prior to the parade.  www.IrishParade.net.

Start celebrating early on Saturday, March 14^th in what Lindy Promotions is calling the city’s biggest Irish celebration, the Federal Hill Irish Stroll from 12 pm to 9 pm at the neighborhood’s notable drinking establishments including Abbey Burger Bistro, Banditos, Blue Agave, Bookmakers, C&R Pub, Fat Larry’s, Illusions, Mad River, MaGerks, Mother’s Grille, No Way Jose, Nobles, Pub Dog, Ropewalk, Rowhouse, Ryleigh’s, and Stalking Horse.

Federal Hill Irish Stroll participants will enjoy $3 Miller Lites, $4 Blue Moons & Redd’s Apple Ales, along with great food specials from 12-9pm. To heighten the festivities, strollers will be serenaded by a Celtic bagpiper, receive tons of complimentary green beads, and hang out with a lucky leprechaun. The first 3,000 in attendance will also receive a FREE St. Paddy’s koozie.

Advance discounted tickets are available online at www.lindypromo.com; admission price will increase as the event nears. Registration takes place on E. Cross Street in front of No Way Jose, from 12-5pm and all guests must register between these times in order to receive their event wristband, koozie, beads, and map of the participating venues.

A long time ago, even eons in dog years, while decorating a storefront window on Charles Street for St. Patrick’s Day a gentlemen came in and asked me, “Are you St. Patrick?”, and in my best lilting Irish accent I responded, “no, I be one of the snakes he chased out of Ireland.”  No matter who you are enjoy  St. Patrick’s Day and don’t drink and drive – that is why there is Uber, Lyft or designated drivers.
