This review is for my Baltimore foodies, so many of you travel to New York and we know New York can be a tad expensive. I have a tasty and cost effective solution if you are open to suggestion. Let me refer you to a particular French Bistro in New York that offers multiple preparations of the best mussels I have ever eaten for $14.

My daddy, a one man CSA - Happy fathers day
In honor of my daddy, I am reposting a story I wrote previously, it is up on my National Food Examiner column. If you haven't read it in the past I hope you will enjoy a daughter's memories of a very special man.
My daddy, never dad or father but daddy, loved to grow vegetables that along with fishing were his joys. I can’t rant and rave about his cooking skills, he could ruin a steak or burger on the grill in a New York minute but he could grow veggies. It was never one variety of tomatoes it was plum, big boy, cherry, yellow and other varieties or the cucumbers were the regular ones you know from salads, pickling cucumbers and lemon cucumbers.

Cheeseburger in Paradise - don't pass one by
Before gourmet burgers became haute cuisine there was Cheeseburger in Paradise, a small restaurant chain located in 30 plus cities east of the Rockies. The licensed name of the famous Jimmy Buffet song maintains its spirit of the Caribbean and Florida Keys. Tropical in appearance with island murals and following that theme throughout their Tiki Bar and food, you feel swept away to the ‘keys.’
Happy hours, specialty drinks, plenty of chilled beer (even a yard of beer) is there for those who want to indulge. Frozen drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic made with fresh fruit juice. The local Cheeseburger in Paradise has the ability to roll up large garage doors for open air when weather permits. Ideal for the traveler on the road, families, date night – they seem to have something for everyone along with a good price point.

An evening with the Consul General of Italy in Baltimore -64th Anniversary of the Republic of Italy
Bona sera was the greeting, a kiss on both cheeks as Dr. Francesco Luigi Legaluppi, the Consul General of Italy in Baltimore greeted his guest for the celebration of the 64th Anniversary of the Republic of Italy. On this warm hot night, not even the Lutherville wooded area at the Cloisters could come up with a breeze for the black tie optional dressed guests.

64th Anniversary of the Republic of Italy – Eat Italian tonight - Cooking video
June 2, 1946 Italy went from a monarchy to a republic and today is the 64th anniversary. Why write about this in a food column? One, because this doesn’t get as much play as Cinco de Mayo which is a great excuse for eating Mexican food and two, any excuse to eat Italian food and celebrate with a glass of prosecco is a must.
Check out the recipe/video - simple, easy - great for warm weather:
