Julie and Julia with Juliet

I’ve been hyping the Julie and Julia movie for quite some time. I took time out this afternoon to go see the movie with my friend, Juliet.

Like so many of us in the food business, I have an emotional tie to Julia Child.I had met Julia Child four times, the last at the opening of her kitchen at the Smithsonian as well as sitting across from her the first time she had steamed crabs. Read the full story: Julie and Julia with Juliet

This is why you are fat website

You all can thank Downtown Diane for this link to This is Why You Are Fat website of photographs of foods so laden with calories it is mind-boggling. Sure enough they had a picture of the KFC Double Down sandwich that I wrote about earlier this week. The sandwich is two fried boneless chicken breasts that surround two cheeses, bacon and the KFC special sauce.

The Chateau Vin-Mer Appetizer Challenge (recipe included)

The invitation arrived two weeks ago, an invite to Chateau Vin-Mer for an appetizer challenge. Enter your best appetizer dish the invite said. I didn’t have time to fill out the form though I RSVP’d that I was coming and participating in the challenge. I honestly didn’t think of what appetizer I was going to take until that morning. I wanted to do fresh figs stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese and topped with honey.

The Church of Emeril Lagasse

Bam! There I was in the church of Emeril during the Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival. Not literally, but part of his audience at his sell-out, two hour show at the Caesar’s Palace-Circus Maximus theater. Every seat filled with Emeril Lagasse fans; men and women, young and old, every race, creed and orientation were there for the food gospel according to Emeril. I thought the roof would come down from the applause, whooping and hollering when he came on stage. I actually found it funny and started to laugh, I guess I’m jaded.

Juan Valdez is no friend of mine

I have always been a follower, never the leader, and as much as I would like to be one of the pack lined up in a Starbucks or other coffee emporiums ordering a mocha, double latte, it will never happen. Fair trade, organic, hauled on the back of mule in Columbia means nothing to me – I hate coffee, I hate the smell, and I hate the taste. You say everyone loves coffee, but I beg to differ.

Many celeb chefs are about for the event but one I wasn't expecting was Chef George Perrier of Le Bec Fin in Philadelphia. I just ate there last week with a group of Baltimore Chefs.
